The Oyen Bull-A-Rama always runs on a Wednesday. Has done for years. Fresh on the heels of the Calgary Stampede, this year it’s July 20th.
You won’t find any ferris wheels here, or people being shot out of a cannon, just the crazy spectacle of professional bullriding and “bloodless bullfighting” (simply a guy in brightly coloured clothing taunting a huge bull, one-on-one). The Oyen Bull-A-Rama is a popular adrenalin rush like no other. Thousands descend on the Town of Oyen, Alberta every year to spend an evening with family and friends munching on homemade corndogs and hot beef on a bun. The beer tent is close by, as is the mandatory ambulance (the law requires an ambulance to be present at all times during the show).
Check out the blog posts at Roadstories.ca and Canadabadlands.com for more info and pictures from the Oyen Bull-A-Rama.
Oyen is a small town located in the Canadian Badlands close to the Saskatchewan border, on Highway 41, just south of Highway 9. It’s the first major centre in Alberta for travellers coming from Saskatchewan and a good location for the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre.
